Heavy security presence in Osogbo as Osun governorship election tribunal resumes sitting

There are many security personnel there Osun State High Court as the governor of the state election tribunal petition continued to sit there for the adoption of the final written address.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Gboyega Oyetola are challenging the victory of Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the July 16 governorship election.

On Thursday, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi raised the alarm over the alleged plan to unleash violence when the sit-in resumes on Friday.

“The information has some people who are ready to cause violence, that information, I trust that statement,” he said.

Adekunle Akindele, the National Guard Chairman of the PDP, condemned the alleged plan for violence.

But Mr. Akindele said it was the APC that was behind the plan rather than the party.

The counter-claims of both the parties have created fear among the citizens of the country.

However, the police and other security agencies have pledged to ensure security inside and outside the court premises.

When journalists arrived at the court on Friday morning, personnel of the State Security Service, the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were at the court gate.

Security officers armed with rifles were also deployed at strategic places around the court.

They stopped, questioned and searched visitors and vehicles entering the court premises.

Party loyalists were issued numbers and told to enter the courtroom in a long queue.

As of 10:05 a.m. when this report was filed, the court hearing had not yet begun but counsel for both sides had been seated.

Many loyalist parties who were not allowed to enter the court were ordered outside the court.
