‘Heaven Knows How We Will Get There’ – Pensioner Bondholders Sing Osibisa ‘Anthem’ At Picketing Grounds | Social

Members of the Pension Bond Holders Forum, on Monday, February 13, 2023, continued their picket at the Ministry of Finance demanding a total exemption from the Domestic Debt Exchange Program implemented by the government.
Video from Monday’s picket shared by UTV showed pensioners singing Osibisa’s emotional “Woyaya”.

Unlike the cheerful mood at the beginning of the protest, the pensioners on Monday sang the song in a somber mood as they did last week.

“We are going. Heaven knows where to go. We know we are there. We are going. Heaven knows where to go. We know we are there.

“We’ll get there. Heaven knows how we’ll get there. We know we will.”

“It will be difficult for us to understand. And the road will be muddy and rough. But we will get there, heaven knows how we will get there. We know we will.”

Last week, the protest by the pensioners against the government got a big boost when the former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo joined the ministry to press for their demand.

Speaking to the media on Friday, he described the government’s move to include pensioners in the debt exchange program as malicious, dishonest, and illegal and threatened to sue the government if necessary, if it continues.

According to him, it is wrong for the government through the Ministry of Finance to sacrifice the pensioners’ coins to save the government after serving the nation for decades.

While lamenting the negative impact of the loan exchange program on pensioners in an interview with GhanaWeb Business, Sophia Akuffo stressed that it is heartbreaking to see her peers and others older than her suffering.

“It’s nice to see people, especially in my age group, some older than me, some younger than me, but these are all people who have worked hard. They can leave the country while others are. They live, they work for nation.

“I find it bad, it’s rude, I’m illegitimate. I think it’s wrong, because you don’t solve your problems by sacrificing your life. It’s actually aimed at pleasing and reducing the elderly,” he said.

Meanwhile, members of the Pension Bond Holders Forum were promised in parliament on Tuesday to continue their protest.
