Hearts of Oak scored an offside goal – coach Kotoko
Asante Kotoko assistant coach Orlando Wellington felt cheated after his side lost at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday to Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League.
In a fierce battle for supremacy in the league game that doubles as the President’s Cup, Kotoko fell again to the Phobians after Konadu Yiadom rose highest to connect Linda Mtange’s free kick in the 57th minute.
Kotoko failed to score after several attempts including an attack that in the embers of the game, saw the Porcupines protesting for a penalty. The call was overruled by an umpire close to the incident.
The former Black Satellites coach, on the other hand, believes that when Konadu Yiadom’s goal should not have counted because the defender was offside, Kotoko deserved a penalty.
“Hearts of Oak’s goal against us was offside. They scored offside and the referee denied a clear penalty,” Wellington said after the loss.
Hearts of Oak who continued to lift the President’s Cup trophy after the final whistle have returned to the top four with 31 points. They are currently above Kotoko on goal difference.
The Phobians will look to climb further up when they visit Bibiani to take on Gold Stars at Duns Park on Saturday 12th March.
