A 45-year-old security company owner has been arrested by the Hawks after being found in possession of a hijacked vehicle that was allegedly used in an attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery, Tuesday.
The Hawks said they believe the vehicle was used in an attempted cash-in-transit robbery that took place on Friday near Boipatong, Gauteng.
Attack
It is understood that the G4S armored vehicle was traveling on Frikkie Meyer Street when it was hit from behind twice by a charcoal Mercedes-Benz.
Hawks spokesman Captain Lloyd Ramovha said the driver then veered off the road into nearby bushes.
“They were allegedly shot at in an armored truck. A group of armed suspects surrounded the stalled truck and ordered the guards to get off. The guards were disarmed. The suspects then tried to detonate the armored vehicle with explosives but failed.
“They fled the scene empty-handed using several vehicles,” he said.

“Two vehicles, a white Audi A3 and a blue Hyundai Tucson, which were allegedly used as getaway vehicles, were recovered from the address. Further investigation led to the seizure of six 9mm pistols, a bulletproof jacket and a reflective jacket.
Ramovha said the 45-year-old man was arrested and is expected to appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Gauteng Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Ebrahim Kadwa welcomed the arrest and applauded the investigation team.
North West cash theft
Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt following a cash-in-transit heist on the N12 road in the North West on Thursday.
It is understood that robbers traveling in a four-vehicle convoy rammed into a van carrying cash on the way to Wolmaransstad from Kleksdorp.
Using explosives, the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Provincial police spokeswoman Athlenda Mathe said the suspects also made firearms from Fidelity guards.
