Gupta, Bosasa liquidator wounded, son killed in apparent hit



A well-known African Global Holdings (formerly Bosasa) and liquidator of the Gupta company has been shot dead and his son injured on the N1 North highway in Midrand, north of Johannesburg.

It is understood that 50-year-old Cloete Murray and her son Thomas, 25, were shot in an apparent assassination attempt at Engen Big Bird 1 Stop, North on the Newroad off-ramp on Saturday.

Sello said the police in Midrand would investigate a case of murder and attempted murder following the shooting.

“It was reported that on March 18, 2023, two men (reportedly father and son) were traveling together when their vehicle was shot by unknown suspects. The son was shot dead while the father sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.

“The circumstances leading to the incident are unknown at this stage. In addition to Bosasa, Cloete is a business rescue practitioner for one of the Gupta family companies, Shiva Uranium, including Comair.

Cloete was appointed liquidator for state contractor Bosasa by the court whose executive was impeached on charges of state capture before presiding judge Raymond Zondo.

Thomas was a legal practitioner in his father’s company, Sechaba Trust when he was shot.

Shot multiple times

Emer-G-Med Paramedics say the father and son were shot multiple times.

“A twenty-eight-year-old man was found with fatal injuries and was pronounced dead when paramedics arrived, while another man, in his fifties, was found in a critical condition.

Emergency Care Practitioners worked hard to stabilize him before he was quickly transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for further treatment,” Emer-G-Med said.
