The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), the South Sahara Social Development Organization (SSDO), has launched a zero electoral violence campaign, saying it is to educate and sensitize voters on the need to avoid all forms of electoral violence during the 2023 general elections.
The organization said it decided to launch the campaign, given the fact that electoral violence continues to characterize every election season in Nigeria. He also stressed that he is ready to change the narrative.
The group said: “We will create and institutionalize a unique hand symbol and popularize the hashtag, #ZeroElectionViolence, on social media platforms. We will end the campaign with a mega rally to have a positive effect.
“While conducting Project 100-Rural Election Drive, we received disturbing responses on election-related violence from urban residents in some communities, which have become a burden in the country’s political space since the return to democratic governance.
“In certain communities, urban mourners are persecuted, shamed and prevented from spreading information in their communities. We know that this is a long-standing challenge.
“In the survey, we sampled public opinion and realized that 67 percent of people believe that the upcoming general elections will be marred by violence.”
