Government will ensure Christian Atsu will be buried – Bawumia
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has announced that the late Christian Atsu will be given a state burial.
The late Ghanaian football international was killed in the earthquake that devastated parts of Turkey and Syria on February 6.
In a brief ceremony to receive the body of the late Atsu from Turkey on the evening of February 19, Dr. Bawumia said that the country has lost a great son who will be missed.
“It is a very sad day that we come here to receive the remains of our brother, Christian Atsu. The earthquake that hit Turkey very hard, and every day we pray that our brother will be found, but when he is found, he is no longer there,” he said with weep.

“He loved us very much and we will always miss him. This is a very painful loss, and we pray that the soul of our brother is in the arms of the one who made us,” he said.
The vice president also thanked the family for their efforts and the people of Ghana for their support in transporting the rest of the players back to Ghana.
“We offer our sincere condolences to the entire family for their loss and I want to say that the State will fully engage the family to provide them with a befitting burial,” Bawumia said.
