Gorgonia Butcher booked for attempted murder after stabbing his own sister

A 33-year-old state patient nicknamed the Gorgonia Butcher after he stabbed a pediatric nurse to death has tried to kill another person – this time his own sister, stabbing her 15 times. The people – who live in the Northern Cape – are known as Devon Ovies.

He was earlier this week sentenced to an additional 18 years in prison for attempting to kill his sister and stealing a motor vehicle.

Fortunately, he was arrested, charged and detained by the police. He appeared in the Springbok District Court where he was sentenced.

Ovies was declared a patient of the state after he killed 50-year-old Katrina Jagers in 2015 in the living room of the hospital where he worked in Upington.

Jagers was a pediatric nurse working at Dr Harry Surtie’s Hospital when she was attacked by Ovies.

The Ovies – believed to be devil worshipers at the time – are said to have cut open their stomachs, pulled out their intestines and used the blood to write the number 35 on their doors.

The incident allegedly happened last night after Ovies approached Katrina in the parking lot in front of several witnesses.

Witnesses have told the court that they saw him run after her, jump on her and abuse her before killing her.

He was eventually tracked down and arrested. Jager is a mother of three – two boys and a girl.

Ovies appeared in court and was taken for a mental evaluation.

According to reports, on December 20, 2021, he was released from a mental institution in Kimberley and booked under the supervision of his 39-year-old sister who lives in Concordia in Springbok.

In the most recent incident, on January 6, 2023 at 9:00 p.m., Ovies and his sister had an argument over house arrest that resulted in him stabbing her 15 times in front of two children.

He fled in a vehicle from his home in Concordia but was arrested 30 minutes later in Okiep.

Devon was sentenced to 14 years for attempted murder and 4 years for theft of a motor vehicle. The sentences will run together.
