Sometimes those dreams don’t come true (or maybe a celebrity finds a new niche in the middle of nowhere in Wyoming) but the reality is that not everyone who comes to Tinseltown survives. There are many benefits to living fast in El Lay, but there are also benefits to leaving and changing the scenery of your life. Here are some celebrities who found peace outside of the City of Angels — and why they chose to leave!
Jeffry’s star
Make up artist Jeffry’s star leave El Lay life behind for ranch life! He sold his famous mansion for $15 million and packed his Pomeranian for a roller coaster in Casper, Wyoming in December 2020. There he opened a new business, Star Yak Ranchwhere they sell yak meat to local restaurants as well as to individuals directly from their website.
Talk about a big turnaround – makeup for meat!
Kanye West
Kanye West left Hollywood for the Wyoming ranch, too (which did not help put the rumors of Jeffree Star to rest at that time)! In 2021, when whispers of divorce from Kim Kardashian since it went viral, the rapper and the socialite have not quite agreed on where their future lies. The entire family began spending time together in Wyoming in 2019, but Kim changed her original dream of moving to the Equality State permanently when she began her legal career. In the 2021 episode of Keeping up with the Kardashianshe said:
“I honestly can’t do this anymore. Why am I still in this place where I’m stuck for so many years? Like, they move and move to different countries every year. We have to, like, together so I can raise son. He’s an amazing father, he’s doing an amazing job. [Kanye] deserves someone who will support his every move [and] go anywhere and move to Wyoming.
In January 2021, sources confirmed US Weekly sing Stronger rapper has no intention of leaving his ranch. We wonder how his new wedding is Sensor Bianca feel like one of their many homes!
Lori Loughlin & Mossimo Giannulli
Lori Loughlin and her husband who designs clothes Mossimo Giannulli hit the road and head to Idaho, leaving the Golden State behind. In April 2021, rumors began to spread that the actress and her husband had deviated from the celebrity life to “make a marriage.” But why Idaho? Do they really like potatoes? Well, the source said US Weekly in time:
“Lori loves hiking, skiing and the outdoors. Long walks calm her down and she looks forward to her daily hikes. [Mossimo] also loves the outdoors and especially the snowboarding and skiing that Idaho has to offer.

Reese Witherspoon
In 2022, Reese Witherspoon and his wife Jim Toth left Los Angeles to find peace somewhere a little less hustle and bustle (but not too much). She decided to call Nashville, Tennessee her new home after she felt the need to start a new chapter in her life. Insider for OK! Magazine said at the time Legally blonde star just wants to go home:
“Nashville has always been a special place for them, especially Reese. It’s where they grew up, and they still have family there. Reese and Jim visit every year and decide it’s time to make a more permanent move.”
Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban left Hollywood way back in 2007 and found a spot just half an hour south of Nashville on the farm. The country music singer gushed to Tennessean when he and his wife found their forever home:
“The first place I took him [even before house-hunting] out near Leipers Fork. That eventually came out in the common area that would now be called home. I just know that they will love it for the same reasons that I do. There are steps and ways of life that are more spiritually satisfying for me than anywhere else.
Kristin Cavallari
Kristin Cavallari knew everything was perfect when he found Franklin, Tennessee home! After his divorce in 2020 with his ex-husband Jay Cutler, he bought a three-story, five-bedroom farmhouse sitting on 28 acres and never looked back. He told me MyDomain in time:
“I walked in and knew right away that this was my home. It was energy more than anything, it was like calling my name. To this day, I thank my lucky stars that everything worked out. Honestly, it’s like everything suits me.”

Adrian Grenier
actor Adrian Grenier decided to sell Cali to Texas in 2020 when he moved permanently to a farm in Bastrop, a city that is only 45 minutes from Austin. He revealed to Life Magazine in 2021 they have planted a fruit forest and have plans to create a wildlife sanctuary. He said of the city:
“I have friends here, I run a business here, and I like the speed. Austin is cosmopolitan without being snooty; it’s earthy. People are smart and successful but don’t brag. You don’t have to prove anything, people accept you and feel comfortable right away.
Julia Roberts
Just one home away from Hollywood is not enough Julia Roberts! The actress is known for her homes across the country, including stunning properties in Hawaii, New Mexico, Georgia, and New York. He and his wife Daniel Moder can not leave California behind completely, though, and also has a house in Malibu.
The actress had earlier told Oprah Winfrey her favorite of all the houses was the mansion in the Enchantment State, gushing:
“It’s peaceful, and it’s a relief. I always say you can’t be in a bad mood here. I don’t know if it’s New Mexico or just the mountains, but you can’t be stupid in a negative way.
Mara Wilson
Matilda himself did not have time for the golden standard of Hollywood and left the city at only 13! Mara Wilson has a special place in everyone’s heart with the adorable little star of the 90s, but when it’s over, it’s over. She initially said that the reason she left acting was to focus on writing, but in 2016 she clarified. NPR the pressure is too much:
“I was very depressed, I was very worried, I can hardly remember Matilda coming out. I only have vague memories of the premiere, and it was really hard for me. So I think that I became unhappy with acting, with Hollywood.
So sad to hear…
Luckily she overcame her struggles and now lives her best life in Burbank as a respected essayist and blogger.
Bridget Mendler
Another Disney Channel star is leaving El Lay life to pursue a different career! Congratulations Charlie alum Bridget Mendler lost from her acting and music career to go to college, and is now a PhD student WITH. She lives happily under the radar in Mill Valley, California with her husband Griffin is smart who got married in 2019.
He may not be gone forever though, as he teases new music is coming “soon” early this year! Interesting!
Nikki Blonsky
His hairspray Nikki Blonsky he said he never left Hollywood – Hollywood left him. The actress was revealed in 2017 to The magazine is out after her great role as Tracy she just couldn’t accept auditions like her former co-star Zac Efron and John Travolta. He told the outlet at the time:
“It felt like they took me to the top of the mountain and gave me everything I wanted. And then after a year, they all just looked at me and said, ‘Okay, bye!’ and left me unable to descend.”
He currently lives on Long Island with his partner Hailey Jo Jenson whom she married last year.
Daniel Day-Lewis
One of the most acclaimed actors of all time left Los Angeles and the film industry suddenly and shocked his fans. Reps for Daniel Day-Lewis told Variety in 2017 his film Phantom Thread will be the last film he puts under his belt as an actor. The statement read:
“He is very grateful to all his collaborators and viewers over the years. This is a personal decision and he and his representatives will not comment on this matter.
There isn’t much information on what he’s doing now, but last heard he was living in Ireland with his wife. Rebecca Miller.
Perez Hilton
