An online petition called for the government’s help to save the situation,
“Others have to stay because they don’t have money to go back to their countries. Some have been sued by their landlords for not paying rent,” the plea noted.
According to some students, it has been a lot of difficulties and struggles.
“People who graduated in December last year only got paid for 3 or 4 months.”
“I came here in September last year. I haven’t been paid,”
Meanwhile, the Scholarship Secretariat in response to the matter called on students to remain firm and avoid illegal activities that could bring shame to the country.
“As we conclave to deliberate on strategies, we urge our scholars around the world to swear that any wrongdoing will bring shame to the Government of Ghana.
“In fact, this is the time to show the true character of resilience as Ghanaians and we advise Scholars to remain firm with the terms and conditions of the scholarship award even in the face of these challenges,”
“The schedule for the remaining countries will be communicated to you through various student platforms and students who wish to join via zoom must register with the student leader,”
The Secretariat guarantees that you will meet students through its “Time with the Registrar” series to discuss actions to resolve arrears and scholarship commitments.
