Ghana, 5 other African countries showcase their rich fashion and culture at the African fashion week in Dubai
Talented designers from Africa were given the spotlight at this year’s Africa Fashion Week held at DIFC’s Gate Village in Dubai.
This free three-day event showcases culture, beauty, talent, elegance, and excellence while celebrating the heritage of the land of AFRICA.
This year’s activities include panel discussions on the topics of Innovation and Technology, Sustainability, and Industry Real Talk.
Patrons have the opportunity to participate in workshops and witness runway shows featuring stunning designs by some of the continent’s best designers.
Collections from Ghana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Senegal, and Congo are on display throughout the week.
Nana Serwaa of Ghana’s Caped Coast embraces the eco-friendly concept and presents a sustainably focused collection. She unleashes the future of fashion with a collection of capes, kaftans, and kimonos, made with authentic and sustainable prints produced in Ghana.
With a vision of “connecting traditional tailoring with modern forward thinking”, Nigeria’s Kiza Bespoke chose Creative Director Zak to voice the new collection. The brand symbolizes how Kiza bespoke gives new life to modern tailoring while demonstrating that the brand is a presentation of fashion with an understated refinement.
From Senegal, OMAAD pays homage to its rich African heritage through urban & elegant creative design with a modern and comfortable look. The Dubai-based fashion label creates each capsule collection with the aim and purpose of exploring tradition and culture while embracing the modern world.
The Ntombi Couture Collection from Zimbabwe presents the complete Zambezi Collection through Hues like the Zambezi River and the calm sun, with a mix of light and structured fabrics and a modern expression of African luxury in traditional African prints.
Featuring a mix of earth tones and bold colours, taking center stage and wowing visitors at this year’s Africa Fashion Week is South Africa’s Mantsho. The vibrant brand known for its distinctive prints and carefully curated textiles voices a collection based on a confident African aesthetic with an international sensibility.
The unisex collection, named Yulu, which means UP in Swahili, is presented by Congolese-South African designer Urban Zulu.
Although the designer himself is absent, the brand perfectly presents the new collection to the world. The core of the collection symbolizes the idea of expressing Art as Fashion and Fashion as Art, presenting African prints reimagined in the most contemporary format.
