Ghana will struggle against every country if issues are not fixed now – Sammy Kuffour

Former Ghana defender Sammy Kuffour has issued a blunt warning about the declining state of the Black Stars, claiming that fear and a lack of tactical identity have left the national team in a precarious position.

Kuffour, a veteran of Ghana’s debut World Cup appearance in 2006, expressed deep concern over the psychological state of the current squad.

“It will get to a point, we cannot win against any country if we don’t fix things,” he warned in an interview with 3 Sports.

Highlighting the pressure and lack of confidence, he added, “Now, [when] you’re going to the stadium, you s**t in your pants before you leave.”

His comments come at a critical juncture as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) recently appointed  Carlos Queiroz as head coach to replace Otto Addo, a move Kuffour believes must be supported despite public debate.

While critical of recent tactical choices – such as a defensive “three-back” system used against Comoros – Kuffuor urged fans to unite behind the Portuguese trainer to ensure stability.

Beyond coaching, the former Bayern Munich star called for structural reforms and better scouting of dual-nationality players.

Ghana has been drawn into Group L for the upcoming tournament and is scheduled to face Panama, England, and Croatia. Queiroz is expected to be unveiled at a press conference in Accra this Thursday.
