The President of the Presbyterian University, Ghana (PUG) Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu has stated that now the only solution that can change the fortunes of this country is honest leaders with disciplined character.
According to Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, the future of the country depends very much on the type of graduates produced by the university and other tertiary institutions in the various campuses, so it is necessary to instill discipline and honesty in order to prepare a future generation and leadership with good integrity.
He said “our main problem in this country is about leadership, and you cannot talk about good leadership without talking about integrity, discipline, if we can train more students to be disciplined and honest, then many of our problems as a country will be solved. , at the Presbyterian University, Ghana, we want to build that character because no matter how intelligent you are without a good character, you can’t go far and it’s hard to move forward in life”.
“Presbyterian University, Ghana stands for discipline, which originates from the “Holistic Education” we offer, our motto is discipline in Leadership, we believe that discipline is an important value for every human society since it engenders the ability to choose and do what it is. All right”
“Disciplined people can manage their emotions, fight against all odds and be selfless, honest, hardworking and motivated”
He also charged the university to produce graduates who are disciplined and will affect the country positively and should not issue certificates to students because of their income-driven goals.
Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu said this in an interview when Presbyterian University, Ghana held the 20th Undergraduate Matriculation Ceremony of Akuapem-Tema Campus in Akropong Eastern region.
He disclosed that this year the Presbyterian University, Ghana matriculated a total of 915 applicants in the three sections comprising of 331 Males and 584 Females.
The matriculation ceremony held at the Akuapem-Tema campus was attended by 26 applicants in the Faculty of Development Studies, 11 in the Faculty of Education and 44 applicants in the School of Business and Economics with a total of 81 matriculations.
The President further expressed concern over the mass production of students in some public universities due to the burden on hostels and lecture facilities saying it was affecting the quality of education.
He however called on the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to intervene and clarify the necessary regulations on the number of students to be admitted into the university based on the facilities available to them.
