Ghana is bankrupt because of Ofori-Atta’s bad policies; Ghana will suffer for the next 30 years – Pianim
Ghanaians will suffer for the next thirty to forty years because of the bad policies of the current government which have been introduced by the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, a renowned economist, Mr. Kwame Pianim has said.
He noted that Ghana is now bankrupt.
Mr. Pianim who is also the founding father of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) said this when he spoke in an interview with Paa Kwasi Asare TV3 on Wednesday, January 11 about the debt exchange program.
“For this government to allow Ken Ofori-Atta to sit in front of Ghanaians to make this proposal…
“If Ken is real, when the Attorney General comes with a legal opinion, which in the Commonwealth has the power of a high court order, he will take this document and go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). legal, not constitutional.
He added, “…Ken Ofori-Atta said, let’s do this program but it’s not well thought out, it’s not well thought out. This exchange program is like a time bomb that Ken has put in this economy. For the next 30 to 40 years, we will suffer. This is a ticking time bomb because they are taking billions of Cedis out of this economy.
The domestic debt swap program was launched on Monday, December 5 as part of austerity measures to save the economy from collapse.
According to the Program, the government will reintroduce coupons for domestic bonds, whose maturity can reach 2037. These bonds will be exchanged for new ones.
The report on the inclusion of workers’ pensions caused unrest among workers, who gave the government a 7-day ultimatum not to make contributions, most of which are kept in government coffers.
After the ultimatum ended, Organized Labor announced its intention to continue the strike from Tuesday, December 27.
“We are asking government to exempt us from the debt exchange programme,” Secretary General of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) Dr Anthony Yaw Baah told reporters at a press conference in Accra on Monday, December 19.
“We have told the world that if the government does not do it, we will advise ourselves. Today, we are here to announce our advice.
“The suggestion is very simple. We have all agreed that since the government is refusing to give in to our demands, we have firmly decided that all workers in Ghana will strike on December 27, 2022, and we will strike until our demands are met.
But he reversed the decision after a meeting with the Finance Minister.
