The Energy Ministry said available records would show that the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) gave Genser a gas price discount of $6.50MMBtu until November 2017.
According to the Ministry, there is sufficient documentary evidence to support the fact that in April 2018, Ghana Gas signed a Gas Sales Agreement with Genser.
The Gas Sales Agreement under the note allows the company to obtain gas to fuel its power plants.
The event according to the Ministry clearly shows that, Ghana Gas and Management led by Dr. Ben Asante has led all transactions with Genser and therefore as a matter of fact, is responsible for every consequence.
The Ministry therefore intimates that the statement by the Association of Senior Staff of Ghana Gas seeking to suggest that the Minister took a slanted approach with regards to Genser matter is misconceived, made out of bad faith and calculated to try to muddy the waters for selfishness. results.
The Ministry on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, issued a statement to correct the falsehood that the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh did Genser’s bidding.
“This matter is being investigated by the Parliamentary Committee on Mines and Energy. The Ministry is considering the legal consequences of discussing the situation.
The statement went on to say that the President of the Republic has further referred the matter to the Ministry, the Oil Commission, and the Energy Commission for investigation.
“A report on this has been sent to His Excellency the President”, said.
It continues that “The Minister wishes to state unequivocally that;
a) he, or anyone acting on behalf of the Ministry did not sign a contract with GENSER
b) the only contracts signed with Genser on record are GNGC and GNPC.
c) This contract between GENSER & GNGC was previously a Minister in the Ministry of Energy and was duly signed on behalf of GNGC by Dr Ben Asante, CEO and the said Ministry.
The Ministry said that the new position of the Senior Staff Association as contained in the second release is hypocritical as they are now shifting their goal post to talk about the Minister of Energy giving approval before executing the contract. The question the Ministry posed to them, if Ghana Gas did not come to the Ministry for approval why the Association thinks that GNPC should come to the same from the Ministry.
The ministry assured that it will make a copy of the signed contract between Genser and Ghana Gas available for scrutiny along with other documentation as it aims to settle all the matters.
