Getting down to the 2023 finals

At the beginning of February, Cointelegraph started to reveal the 2023 Top 100 list of the best heroes and worst villains who will influence the crypto and blockchain space in the coming year. The list gathers the votes of Cointelegraph readers and staff who decide the players who will have the most significant influence in the sector in 2022 and who will make the biggest splash in 2023. Profiles have been released in batches of 10, starting from number 100.

The 21–30 profile drops on February 17, with Sebastian Borget, co-founder and chief operating officer of The Sandbox, at No. 30; Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal at No. 24; and United States Representative Tom Emmer at No. 23. Ranks 11–20 are the most recent set of published profiles.

Outside the top 10, Gary Gensler, Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Gensler has significant knowledge of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, and previously taught Massachusetts Institute of Technology classes in the sector. Considering that most digital assets fall under the securities classification, Gensler may have a heavy hand in the regulation of the crypto sector in 2022.

Gensler sits at number 29 in the Cointelegraph 2022 Top 100 selection, gaining a higher place in the 2023 list. As mentioned above, Emmer, another top 30 player, criticized Gensler in 2022 for his approach to regulating the crypto industry. Other names in the 11-20 batch include ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin and ShapeShift CEO Erik Voorhees – among others.

Artificial Intelligence comes in at number 93 on the list, with a profile written by ChatGPT, a chatbot from artificial intelligence company OpenAI. The Central Bank of Nigeria comes in at No. 67; Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit, at No. 55; and CoinShares chief strategist Meltem Demirors took No. 50.
