George Weah: Liberia President mourns Christian Atsu, donates $10,000 to family

The Ballon d’Or winner sent a delegation to the Atsu family home on Wednesday to send a message of condolence and also gave $10,000 to the family.

Former Ghana international Kwame Ayew led the delegation and presented a donation to President Weah.

Atsu was confirmed dead last Saturday after his lifeless body was pulled from the rubble following an earthquake in Turkey.

It follows days of intense searches after earthquakes devastated Turkey and Syria two weeks ago.

Tributes have poured in from far and near, with many offering condolences to the footballer’s family and loved ones.

On Monday, Abedi Ayew Pele and his family visited the grieving family and even donated some things to them.

Another former player also went to the family home of a friend who died on Tuesday to commiserate with him.

Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari are among a group of footballers who visited the family of the late Christian Atsu to offer their condolences.

Also present are former Black Stars players Baffour Gyan, Emmanuel Agyamang-Badu and Haminu Dramani.

Atsu’s remains arrived in Ghana on Sunday evening, with a brief ceremony held at the Kotoka International Airport VIP lounge to receive the remains.
