An interview with right-wing Rep. George Santos (RN.Y.) on One America News Network (OAN) grew tense after he was asked why he showed no remorse for cheating voters to get elected.
The sit-down began with a volley of questions, but the mood changed when host Caitlin Sinclair noted: “History has shown that Americans can forgive anything, but it starts with a sincere apology, usually. A lot of remorse is shown. The general opinion i.e. you haven’t shared it.
“I don’t know what you mean,” replied Santos.
“Well, you look angry,” Sinclair shot back.
“I’m not angry at all,” Santos said.
“Excuse me?” Sinclair asked.
Santos insisted on him. “I’ve said thank you many times,” he said. “I have acted like I am forgiving. See, if you want to compare emotions, people express emotions differently. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
“I don’t know what you’re asking of me now when you ask, ‘Oh, you don’t show any remorse’ or ‘You don’t look sorry,'” he continued. “I don’t know what sorry looks like to you, Caitlin.”
Since admitting to misrepresenting many of his backgrounds during the campaign, Santos has taken a combative approach to the backlash, criticizing the media for reporting on the extensive fibs he said to get to Congress. Even though he says “I’m sorry,” he continues to treat his lies as “decorating” his resume. On Tuesday’s broadcast, he continued to lie, complain about the media and make excuses for his actions.
“I know that a lot of people want to make this narrative that I want to bring to Congress, which is completely wrong,” he said.
Santos has rejected repeated calls to resign, even though polls show that a majority of his constituents – 78% – want him to. Just a few weeks into his tenure, he is under federal, local and international investigation. On Tuesday, he announced he would step down from two committee assignments.
Among the many accusations against Santos: campaign finance fraud, pretending that his mother died as a result of September 11 (when she died over a decade later), falsely claiming that his grandparents fled the Holocaust, and lying about being a college volleyball star. , Santos has admitted that he never attended college, although he previously claimed to have a 3.89 GPA.
