CNN’s Anderson Cooper struggled to contain the surprise in an anecdote from a former roommate of serial liar Rep. George Santos (RN.Y.).
Gregory Morey-Parker alleged Santos stole a Burberry scarf his best friend had given him on the anniversary of his grandfather’s death.
When Morey-Parker spoke with Cooper about the alleged theft, the network aired video footage of Santos speaking at Donald Trump’s pre-Capitol “Stop The Steal” rally in Washington in January 2021.
“I understand he’s actually wearing something he took from you before the Jan. 6th Rally in Washington? Is that a scarf?” Cooper asked Morey-Parker in a video posted online by Mediaite.
“Yes, it is. If you can believe this,” Morey-Parker replied.
“Wait a minute! He’s wearing a scarf?” asked Cooper in disbelief.
“Stolen scarves for rallies stole elections,” Morey-Parker replied. “You gotta love the irony. And the courage, frankly.”
Morey-Parker made a similar claim about the scarf during an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon, and said she never knew Santos by the name he now serves in Congress.
Santos has admitted to making up part of the background and campaign finance investigation. He has not commented on the scarf theft allegations.
