Jon Rahm leads Max Homa by three shots before the final round of the Genesis Invitational as he looks to reclaim the world No. 1 spot from Scottie Scheffler
Jon Rahm is close to regaining the world No. 1 spot after opening a three-shot lead before the final round of the Genesis Invitational.
The Spaniard shot a six-under, unblemished 65 on day three in California to lead the field on 15 under, with American Max Homa the nearest challenger on 12 ahead of Kevin Mitchell on 11 under and Patrick Cantlay on 10.
Rahm, No. 3 in the world, will climb to the top of the rankings if he wins at The Riviera Country Club and current world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler does not finish second.

Scheffler is in a tie for 15th at the moment, 10 strokes behind Rahm at five under par.
Rory McIlroy, the Scheffler man who lost the top spot when he won the WM Phoenix Open last week, was worse at four under after a two-over 73.
Tiger Woods had his best round of the week, shooting a four-over 67 including three eagles on the opening back nine, to sit at three under-par, tied for 26th.

The 47-year-old, returning to competitive golf for the first time since the Open Championship at St Andrews in July, apologized for any mistakes he may have made after giving a tampon to fellow player Justin Thomas on Thursday.
At the helm of the leaderboard, Rahm is chasing his third victory of the year after victories at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express in January.
Rahm said: “I can argue with any event I go to about being able to check anything, but the fact that Tiger is the host, the fact that he plays here and the history of this golf course is a place. I’m happy to win.”
The 28-year-old can also climb to the top of the rankings if he finishes second straight, Scheffler is lower than a solo 23rd and McIlroy does not win the tournament.
Rahm ended his third round with a birdie, barely missed a 12-foot eagle attempt on the first and dropped a 24-foot putt for the gain on 18, in addition to taking shots on four, eight, nine and 11.
Max Homa is in contention to win his second Genesis Invitational title in three years
Homa, who started the third round with a one-stroke advantage as he bids to win the tournament for the second time in three years, was level with Rahm, but back-to-back bogeys at 15 and 16 plus Rahm’s birdie at 18 opened a big gap.
Homa said: “Chasing down the hottest golfer on the planet, it’s an exciting opportunity. I live about the opportunity, take it and then when you have it, take advantage. I’m excited to try myself with that.”
Rahm and Homa sit first and second respectively in the FedExCup standings.
