Rep.-elect Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-Fla.) has not sworn in Congress yet, but has done one of his unofficial duties: clapping back at bad-faith tweets sent by the Republican Party.
This comes after Frost did an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl discussing, among other things, the challenges the former gun control advocate and part-time Uber driver faces in finding affordable housing in Washington.
Earlier this month, she said her application to rent an apartment in the District of Columbia was rejected because of her bad credit score.
Although Frost will earn $174,000 as a congressman, that won’t start until weeks after he’s sworn into office.
In an ABC News interview, Frost explained more about his struggle.
“It’s not cheap,” Frost admitted. “Right now I’m dealing with being rejected from an apartment, trying to figure out where to live because I have bad credit. Maybe I should just, like, couch surf for a little bit.
Frost’s financial problems are common to many people who have moved to a new job, but it does not stop the Republican National Committee “research” feed on Twitter from trying to capitalize on the lack of capital signed by the congressman.
Frost fired back with a rather snarky tweet that explained how renting an apartment works for most working-class Americans: “I don’t get my first paycheck until February and I don’t have a lot of money. When you move into an apartment, you pay upfront, deposit, sometimes lastly, and for furniture.
Frost sent a follow-up tweet mocking the Republican National Committee’s “research.”
Other Twitter users were happy to pile on the RNC’s tweets.
