According to KKD, the ban was caused by government officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. “He told them not to allow KKD to appear on GTV again” he said.
KKD added that he believes that the management and producers of GTV are being used by the government to make decisions because of their vague criticism of the Nana Addo-led administration.
“Since they said GTV for the nation, I never mentioned it anywhere. But it’s funny. I haven’t been there since they asked me not to come. If they deny that they said that, let’s ask the General Director of GTV and the producers of GTV what they said to me that made me stop going there.said KKD
In response to KKD’s statement, GBC through a press release said “if this explanation is really from Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, it is unfortunate. These claims are not true and can only be a product of his imagination“.
“GBC management would like to note that the Corporation does not take instructions from the Government when it comes to content production. Management understands that it would be illegal for the Government to determine who comes to our platform,” the statement added.
With the reason why KKD was not allowed to reappear on GTV, the statement detailed “GBC is guided by the ethics of public service broadcasting journalism. We do not allow guests to make accusations against others that are not present, or have no immediate opportunity to respond.“.
“We are also not into adversarial journalism, and panelists who adopt a combative discourse style are not accommodated on the GBC network. GBC offers panelists of all political persuasions the opportunity to speak on our platform and to retire when there are changes to our content plans.
We also retire panelists who over time change their discourse style to a form that does not conform to GBC editorial guidelines.,” the statement added.
