Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke Won’t Watch ‘House of the Dragon’

“Not! You can [forgive me]?” Clarke, 36, told variety on Jan. 20 when asked about watching HBO’s Targaryen-centric spinoff. The prequel series begins in August 2022 and is said to take place 172 years before Clarke’s character, Daenerys Targaryen, was born. It focuses on their ancestors when they had the Iron Throne.

“It’s very strange. I’m so glad that happened. I’m over the moon about all the awards,” added Clarke, referring to the show’s Golden Globe win for Best Television Series – Drama earlier this month. “I just can’t. It’s so weird. It’s so weird. It’s like someone said, ‘You want to be in a reunion. This school is not your year? Do you want to attend the school reunion?’ That’s how it feels. I avoid it.”

Although he hasn’t seen the series yet, he offers some words of wisdom for being a star Emma D’Arcy.

“Yes, it is. I mean, being Miguel Sapochnik, one of the co-showrunners, he set me up on a date, so to speak, with Emilia Clarke,” the star, 30, told ComicBook.com ahead of the fantasy drama’s August debut.

“My God, he was so generous. He gave me a watch and he was so honest,” he said. “And he spoke to all those areas of experience. And, I think, cleverly, caught some things. But I think he slowly prepared me for the incredible stamina that this job required and made me fight, and, yes, what a wonderful person.

When Clarke is not trying to appear again, her former co-star Kit Harrington they are preparing to return to Westeros. He will reprise the character of Jon Snow in the spinoff series. When viewers last saw the Targaryen-Stark heir, he was sent to the Wall for killing Daenerys.

“I think if you ask him, he’ll feel light,” Harington, 36, told viewers in December. Game of Thrones convention in Los Angeles over Entertainment Weekly. “At the end of the show when we find him in that cell, he’s ready to be beheaded and he wants it. He’s done it. The fact that he went to the Wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse.

At Eternal star continued, “He has to go back up to the place with all this history and live out thinking about how he killed Dany, and live out thinking about Ygritte dying in his arms, and living out thinking about how he hung Olly, and live out thinking about all the trauma this, and … that’s interesting.

He concluded teasingly, “I think if we left him at the end of the show, it would have felt like this… I think we wanted a good smile. He’s fine.”

A Jon Snow spinoff is still in development Dragon House has been renewed for season 2.
