GAF warns civilians against the use of military uniforms

The Ghana Armed Forces says it is taking strict measures to deal with the unauthorized use of military uniforms and equipment by civilians.

In a statement released by the military it stated that “The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) would like to inform you that it has taken stricter measures in accordance with the law and rules of engagement, to ‘suitably’ deal with the growing threat of individuals and various groups , using military style clothing, equipment and other accoutrement in the country.

“The GAF took these additional steps following revelations and investigations which revealed that some miscreants have deliberately obtained these military style clothing and equipment including guns, for nefarious reasons, thereby increasing tension in some communities and also bringing the Ghana Armed Forces into disrepute. “

This comes after the GAF recently arrested a man in Bawku who was spraying a vehicle with military pattern colors on Wednesday, December 21, 2022.

In addition, reports indicate some people wearing military patterns and military-colored clothing, allegedly engaged in some criminal activities late last year and early this month. The incident led to unsubstantiated accusations and the spread of false information in the media that military personnel were more responsible for the actions.

Therefore GAF has assured the public that the personnel who put in all efforts to fish these alleged perpetrators who wear military style clothing and use military equipment to commit crimes and to deceive the unsuspecting public.

“These criminals and imposters are disrupting the great role played by the Ghana Armed Forces in securing the country, restoring normalcy in some conflict-prone areas, and preventing crime in various parts of the country.

“GAF, therefore, requires the maximum cooperation of all Ghanaians as it implements these strict measures to prevent the sale, wearing of military uniforms and the use of military grade equipment by unauthorized persons as it is prohibited under NLCD 177. Violation of this Decree and others who connive in This violation will be dealt with and made to face the full rigors of the law if found,” the statement said again.

The Ghana Armed Forces has assured the general public of its commitment to protect its citizens at all times. It therefore calls for the support of all to implement these measures in the interest of peace and security which is necessary for the socio-economic development of Ghana.
