A fuel tanker exploded on Wednesday on the Ore-Benin Expressway in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo StateNews Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
It was the second explosion in the area in nine days as a kerosene tanker also caught fire there on January 31, burning its driver.
Sikiru Alonge, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Unit Commander in Ore who confirmed the two explosions, said Wednesday’s tanker driver was unhurt and no lives were lost in the incident.
He blamed the accident on the driver losing control of the vehicle when a tire burst.
Mr Alonge said efforts are underway to put out the fire and FRSC personnel have been deployed to the area to ease traffic congestion.
“The explosion occurred due to a tire burst. This made the tanker shake and spilled its contents on the road which caused a fire and then an explosion.
“There was no loss of life in the incident. We are working with the Fire Office in Ondo town to help put out the fire, as there is no fire station in Ore.
