
Free State MEC for Education, Tate Makgoe, died in a car accident on Sunday morning, the provincial government confirmed.
In a statement issued on Sunday morning, Mxolisi Dukwana’s spokesperson Palesa Chubisi said provincial emergency services crews responded to the accident outside Winburg on the N1 at around 12:30 on Sunday.

“When he arrived, he found a light motorcycle that collided with three cows, and three people were trapped.
“They used the jaws of life to free the occupants and unfortunately two of them were pronounced dead at the scene (MEC Makgoe and one Male Protector),” Chubisi said.
Chubisi added that one of the drivers of the vehicle sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Winburg Hospital to be stabilized for transport to Bloemfontein.
The Prime Minister was on his way to the scene of the accident on Sunday morning.
Makgoe will be remembered for the work he did to ensure that Free State matriculation performed well every year.
Born Pule Herbert Isak Makgoe on 12 May 1963 in Tumahole, Parys, Makgoe has served as the Free State MEC for Education since May 2009.
He was sworn in as a member of the Free State Provincial Legislature in May 1994.
