A Fox News panelist tried to warn the world about the unintended consequences of Donald Trump’s impeachment, not realizing the dubious reason it would lead to unintended consequences for him: ferocious Twitter taunts.
Trump is set to be arraigned Tuesday in New York, but on Monday, Fox News contributor Gerri Willis tried to suggest that the former president’s indications of possible crimes would send a bad message to others considering a run for higher office.
“I think you’re going to face more of a lack of leadership because of what’s going on right now,” Willis said. “People won’t want to run for office if this is it!”
Willis went on to argue that the money politicians make has nothing to do with the complexity of running for higher office.
“No one wants to do that!” said Willis. “You know, you don’t make a lot of money. Their weaknesses are greater than their strengths. So, we are like signing our own death warrant.
Willis may have thought he was making a big statement like “if they’re coming for Trump, they’re coming for you,” but many Twitter users noted that it sounded like, “People won’t run for office if they’re not allowed to commit crimes.”
And, yes, he was ridiculed for the suggestion.
