Fouts earns Wilson/NFCA D1 Pitcher of the Week Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After earning Southeastern Conference honors on Monday, five-year Alabama senior Montana Fouts was recognized nationally on Tuesday for a stellar week in the circle, earning Wilson/NFCA D1 Pitcher of the Week honors.

The weekly recognition by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association is the first career honor for Fouts, who is the 2021 NFCA Pitcher of the Year. It is the ninth NFCA weekly honor in program history, with Kaylee Tow being the most recent honoree on Feb. 23, 2021. Fouts is the first Crimson Tide pitcher which was recognized since Alexis Osorio on March 13, 2018.

Fouts threw 19 shutout innings this week through three starts, allowing only four hits and four walks while striking out 36. After six shutout innings on Friday vs. Southern Miss and complete-game shutout vs. Longwood on Saturday, he saved his best performance. to end with a six-inning perfect game in the rematch against the Lancers on Saturday. The perfect game is the eighth in program history and third for Fouts, who previously pitched a combined perfect game at Alabama State (February 12, 2021) and threw a solo perfect game against UCLA in the Women’s College World Series (June 4, 2021). 2021). The Grayson, Ky., native had two strikeouts in every game this week, pushing him past 100 Ks for the season.
