The transfer season is always an exciting time for supporters who expect the team to improve their squad to be more competitive.
And with Mamelodi Sundowns once again dominating the PSL, it has forced other teams to up their game in the transfer market.
Orlando Pirates have brought in Cameroon striker Suaibou Marou. And also Kaizer Chiefs with Christian Saile.
Pirates and AmaZulu have a close relationship
Both sides have also signed pre-contracts with players from other teams who will officially join in July when the PSL season ends.
Here we look at four big deadline day deals that could still happen in the PSL.
- Makhehleni Makhaula for Orlando Pirates – With the pre-contract already in place and AmaZulu FC confirming that they will be losing their captain, Makhaula is technically a Pirates player.
Usuthu and Pirates have a good working relationship and it is not surprising that the two clubs decided that the transfer should happen now.
AmaZulu coach Romain Folz seems to have planned for life after Makhaula as he is currently using him less than him.
Pirates could sweeten the deal by giving Usuthu a player or two to free up the hard-working captain.
- Celipilo Ngema to AmaZulu FC – The Marumo Gallants star is rumored to have signed a pre-contract with the Durban side.
This means he will be leaving Marumo at the end of the season. But the Limpopo side can let him go now as they need a fully committed player in their fight to avoid relegation.
Phakaaathi knew that Usuthu coach Romain Folz was a big admirer of Ngema who worked briefly at the Gallants and it was Folz who proposed the transfer.
- Thamsanqa Gabuza to Royal AM – Coach of SuperSport United Gavin Hunt had previously admitted that he was unsure about Gabuza’s future in the team.
Since then, Royal AM has opened its arms to the striker if he needs a new home.
And with the league already out of his reach, Hunt may let Gabuza go now so he can start scouring the transfer market to see who can fill the void.

- Pule Mmodi for Orlando Pirates – The Golden Arrows say they are not too keen on a move for the Soweto giants.
In fact, rumors suggest he would rather go to another Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs.
But the relationship between Pirates and Arrows has always been amicable and both clubs could easily agree on a transfer.
