Foundation, hospital solicit support for five-year-old

The non-profit organization, Mercy Jet Foundation, in collaboration with Hospital for Trauma and Surgery (HTS)drew attention to the estimate of N6.3 million to save the life of five-year-old Akachukwu Nwanye.

According to the foundation in a message to PREMIUM TIMES, Master Akachukwu was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a heart-related disease that results in the abnormal formation of the baby’s heart from the womb.

The foundation said the heart condition was first discovered at the X-Serve Children’s Heart Clinic, after which he was transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for further treatment before partnering with the Trauma and Surgery Hospital (HTS).

He added that the teenager is currently under HTS treatment and will undergo surgery at the facility, but the cost of the surgery is “far beyond the family’s reach”.

Remedy

The foundation explained that his parents had used medicine to save the patient until the money for the operation was finished, and that he could not go to school because of his condition.

“Please help save Akachukwu. His father, a commercial bus driver, had spent all his savings on blood transfusions, which he did every week.

“The mother of the little boy is earnestly appealing to the public to help her save her son, who will be operated on at the Victoria Trauma & Surgical Hospital, Island, Lagos,” the message said.
