One Direction may be on hiatus, however Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and zayn turned around continued to make music – and headlines – over the years.
After forming and finishing in third place in the UK’s version The X factor in 2010, One Direction released four successful studio albums – Until One Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories and Four. After five years in the group, however, Malik was the first to leave the band, announcing his departure in March 2015.
“My life with One Direction has been more than I could have imagined. However, after five years, I feel now is the right time for me to leave the band,” he said in a statement at the time. “I want to apologize to the fans if I have offended anyone, but I have to do what I think is right. I left because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who can relax and have some personal time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.
Horan, Payne, Styles and Tomlinson then released their fifth albumMade in the AM, sans Malik. Shortly after the record dropped, the remaining band members announced that they were calling it quits. Less than a year laterUs Weekly broke the news that the four decided “not to renew the record contract,” finally calling it quits as a band.
“Chapter 1D is just running,” the insider said us in January 2016. “They will remain friends, but are tired and want a solo career.”
