Ford is recalling 1.5 million cars

Ford is recalling more than 1.5 million vehicles in the U.S. in two actions to fix leaking brake hoses and windshield wiper arms that can break.

The larger of the two recalls involves nearly 1.3 million 2013 through 2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ midsize cars. The company said in a document sent Friday by safety regulators that the front brake hose may have ruptured and leaked brake fluid. That will increase the brake pedal travel and make the stopping distance longer.

The dealer will replace the hoses. Ford will be sending owners a notice starting April 17th. They will get a second letter if parts are available for repair.

Owners experiencing the problem should call their dealer, Ford said. There are several parts that are already available for repair. The company says only about 2% of vehicles will have a brake hose leak.

Ford said it is aware of no injuries caused by the problem.

The second recall involves more than 222,000 F-150 pickups starting in 2021. The windshield wiper arm can break.

Dealers will replace weapons if necessary. Owners will be notified from March 27.
