COLLEGE STATION, Texas (February 16, 2023) – Florida has extended its lead after the third day of the 2023 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships, held at the Texas A&M Rec Center Natatorium.
Florida’s Emma Weyant won the women’s 400 IM with the second-fastest time in the nation this year of 4:01.18. Kentucky’s Lauren Poole finished second with a time of 4:04.62, and Texas A&M’s Giulia Goerigk took third with a time of 4:06.84.
Texas A&M’s Baylor Nelson became the first Aggie to win the men’s 400 IM with the nation’s third-fastest time of 3:38.14. Texas A&M’s Anze Fers Erzen was second in 3:40.10, while Georgia’s Ian Grum was third in 3:40.32.
LSU’s Maggie MacNeil set SEC and SEC Meet records in the women’s 100 fly with a personal best time of 48.99. Alabama’s Meghan Lee took second with a time of 51.01, followed by Alabama’s Rhyan White in third with a time of 51.47.
Florida’s Josh Liendo touched the wall first in the men’s 100 fly with a time of 44.11. Tennessee’s Jordan Crooks came in second with a time of 44.37, and Missouri’s Clement Secchi was third with a time of 45.08.
In the women’s 200 free, Brooklyn Douthwright of Tennessee captured the gold with a personal best time of 1:42.64. Second place went to Texas A&M’s Chloe Stepanek with a time of 1:43.37, and Florida’s Micayla Cronk took third with a time of 1:43.77.
Alabama’s Charlie Hawke swam the fastest time in the nation this year to win the men’s 200 free, setting a pool record with a time of 1:31.20. Missouri’s Jack Dahlgren finished second with a time of 1:31.34. Florida’s Macguire McDuff was third with a time of 1:32.34.
For the final event of the night, Tennessee’s Bryden Hattie won the men’s 3-meter springboard with a final score of 429.20. Texas A&M took the next two podiums, with Victory Povzner taking silver (412.65) and Takuto Endo taking bronze (400.35).
The 2023 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships continue on Friday, February 17 at 9:30 a.m. CT with preliminaries for the women’s 200 fly, 100 back, 100 breaststroke and platform. The finals of the four events plus the 400 medley relay will begin at 5:30 pm CT. The entire session can be viewed on SEC Network+.
