Rescue efforts continue after more than 1,000 killed by flooding in Asia
Hi, I’m a writer for CBC based in Edmonton. Today we’ll be bringing you the latest developments on the devastating floods throughout Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Floods and landslides killed more than 1,000 people in the region last week, and more than 800 people remain missing Monday.
Authorities say at least 604 people were killed in Indonesia, as well as 366 in Sri Lanka and 176 in Thailand.
Hundreds of thousands of residents have been displaced, and some areas are still unreachable, with roads damaged and communications lines down.
Rescue teams are searching for those who have gone missing, while government officials are pledging to restore infrastructure.
