Five people died in a road accident on the Enugu-Awka-Onitsha road on Thursday.
Sector Commander District Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) in Enugu State, Joseph Toby, told the News Office of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu where 15 people – 10 men and five women – were seriously injured in the accident.
He said the two vehicles involved in the crash collided while using the single lane.
“Twenty people in two commercial vehicles; the five who died were three men and two women,” he said.
He added that the injured were taken to the National Orthopedic Hospital, Enugu and a private hospital on the Enugu-Awka-Onitsha Expressway.

Mr. Toby said the body of the deceased was kept at the Colliery Hospital mortuary in Enugu.
He blamed the accident on lack of lane discipline, over-speeding and brake failure.
However, witnesses blamed the accident on poor road conditions that led many motorists to drive against traffic instead of using the failed lane on the dual carriageway.
