Former president John Dramani Mahama has commented on the current economic crisis facing the country.
He believes that the country’s fiscal space will be severely limited for the incoming government after the 2024 elections.
“I know that when we enter office in 2025, the fiscal space will be narrow because of the economic crisis that we are experiencing. So, I think that the next phase that we need to see is a change in our government system,” he said in an interview over the weekend.
He continued by outlining several processes that could help the economy for the new government.
“The revision of our constitution, a strong fight against corruption, are the types of things that young people are looking for, but at the same time we raise investments and place them in areas where young people can get the opportunity to develop their potential.
“Therefore, I think it will be on the agenda for the next NDC administration. It could be me, it could be one of the members,” he said.
Mahama also explained the importance of infrastructure as demonstrated by the last NDC government. Asked what he would do when he was back in office, he replied:
“I keep asking this question a lot of time, we do a lot in our time and in our time we focus on infrastructure,” he said adding that because the infrastructure is damaged, NDC is building roads, interchanges, airport terminals, ports. , schools, hospitals, clinics etc.
Ghana is now participating in the Fund for a loan facility of $3 billion to complement the economic mix worsened by the two events although the opposition blames economic mismanagement for the fallout.
