First multi-millionaire of 2023 bagged R73m



One lucky Lotto player is about to change… The South African Lottery Commission is looking for the first Powerball jackpot winner in 2023.

The player – who has yet to advance – correctly matched five numbers plus the PowerBall to pay an eye-watering R72,989,769 in Tuesday’s draw.

Another player matched five numbers (but missed the mark on his own PowerBall) for a R443 550 payout.

In addition, 30 players won 3 levels of R9 258.40 each, while 455 won R1 035.

The next PowerBall round will take place on Saturday, January 13, with the main game starting again with a jackpot of R6 million.

At the time, National Lottery CEO Charmaine Mabuza said Ithuba was honored for “providing players with correct information about all winning tickets”.

He said those who play through the banking app will be contacted first by the bank to notify them of their win. Mabuza added:

“Winners will receive their winnings tax-free between 48 and 72 hours from the time to claim.
