
The Republican National Committee (RNC) decided on Thursday that the first major debate before the 2024 presidential election will be held in Milwaukee in August, The New York Times first reported it.
The debate will take place in the same city where the 2024 Republican National Convention will be held. Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said criteria for the first debate have not been decided, and the other RNC debates have not been sanctioned, accordingly Washington Post.
“We have a long way to go, but I am confident that we will be able to present our final nominees in a world-class manner,” McDaniel said in an email to RNC committee members, the Post. report.
An RNC spokesperson did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.
After concerns about party divisions, McDaniel previously said he would have all candidates pledge support for the party’s final candidate in order to participate in the primary debate. But many Republican contenders, including former President Donald Trump, have rejected the decision.
The party now has two primary candidates for the 2024 election. Trump, who lost to President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, declare in November that will open again. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) announced plans to enter the race earlier this month.
