Fire guts residential house in Jalingo

A fire on Friday evening gutted a duplex in a residential area close to the Islamic College of Education (Kaljanga) in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.

PREMIUM TIMES observes that hundreds of residents in the area are struggling to put out the raging fire to prevent it from escalating to adjacent buildings including the mosque.

The fire was first discovered at about 6.15pm in a duplex belonging to one Sale Damfami in Jalan Lamurde, Saurara area.

Fire SceneThe resident of the house was said to be attending a wedding ceremony when the incident happened. No lives were lost but property was destroyed.

This newspaper saw how sympathizers rushed to help put out the fire, and their efforts helped prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.

Residents are also concerned that despite being in the national capital, firemen cannot reach the spot to put out the fire on time.

Until the time of filing this report, at 6:55 p.m. residents have successfully extinguished the fire using water and sand.
