Mark Julius Rodelas and Kaizen dela Serna will not only compete for the gold medal at the upcoming Southeast Asian (SEA) Olympics in Cambodia, but the Filipino hurdler ace will also be shooting to break the Guinness World Record in May.

Rodelas and Dela Serna hold the world records in the men’s and women’s 100-meter hurdles, two of the four events at the May 5 to 17 Games in Phnom Penh.

“We will seek recognition with Guinness if our athletes break the record,” Philippine Sports Federation president lawyer Al Agra said during the Philippine Sports Writers Association forum.

The Philippine team won all six gold medals, with the entire delegation of 16 athletes getting a medal each at the 2019 SEA Games in Manila, before the sport was canceled last year in the Vietnam edition.

The Filipino ninjas are angling to pull off another sweep in the medal tally in Cambodia.

“In terms of our goal, we are aiming for a perfect four. We will also work hard for all 12 Filipino athletes to bring home medals,” Agra said.

Apart from the men’s and women’s 100m races, gold medals will also be at stake in the men’s and women’s team events.

Rodelas set a new world record of 27.12 seconds held at the Arcovia City course in Pasig City last year while Dela Serna clocked 39.42 seconds. INQ
