MANILA, Philippines–The trophy to be awarded to the winner of the FIFA Women’s World Cup will be in Manila for a promotional tour, the Philippine Football Federation announced Wednesday.

A public event at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City is set for the evening of March 1 where the trophy will be displayed before soccer fans and mallgoers as a step to drum up support before the Philippine women’s soccer team participates in FIFA’s biggest exhibition in July . .

“We are delighted to welcome the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Manila as the excitement continues to build up for the Filipinas’ debut in the most prestigious women’s soccer tournament,” said PFF president Nonong Araneta.

It will be the third stop of FIFA’s busy cup tour before the World Cup, starting with Japan this weekend and South Korea on Saturday.

After the Philippines leg which ended on March 2, the trophy goes to Vietnam (March 4 to 5), China (March 9 to 11), Morocco (March 20), South Africa (March 22 to 23), Zambia (March 24), Nigeria (March 26), Brazil (March 29 to 30) and Argentina (March 31).

Next up are Colombia (April 3), Costa Rica (April 7), United States (April 10 to 14), Jamaica (April 16), Canada (April 19 to 20), Switzerland (April 29 to May 1), Germany ( 2 until May 3) and Denmark (May 4).

The cup also went to Sweden (6 to 7 May), Norway (8 May), Ireland (10 May), England (13 to 14 May), Italy (16 May), Netherlands (18 May), France (May). 20 to 21) and Spain (May 22) before being flown to Australia and New Zealand for a tour of the two countries.

The Philippines will compete for the first time on the global stage, but will be hard-pressed to get a result against New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland in Group A.
