FIFA (International Federation of Association Football) is looking forward to seeing the Philippine women’s soccer team and its supporters enjoy the experience of being the first participants in the Women’s World Cup.
“This is really a tournament for the first team,” said FIFA marketing executive Sarah Gandoin, who is also overseeing the Women’s World Cup trophy tour that stops in the country on Wednesday.
“We are very happy to have this big party, and we hope that many Filipinos can come and celebrate. [the team’s] historic qualification,” Gandoin added when unveiling the gold trophy at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City.
Gandoin, together with important officials led by the secretary general of the Philippine Football Federation Ed Gastanes, Australian ambassador to the Philippines Hae Kyong Yu and his New Zealand counterpart Peter Kell, were the main guests in the third stop of the cup tour, which also featured events. held before shoppers and soccer fans at the nearby Glorietta Activity Center.
“This is effectively the biggest FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy tour before the biggest FIFA Women’s World Cup,” Gandoin said. “We will visit the 32 qualifying countries with the trophy with the aim of creating excitement and giving the fans a chance to get closer to the trophy.”
Members from the Philippines are also on hand to give themselves a direct view of the trophy that will be contested in FIFA’s global showpiece which will be cohosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The Philippines will exit their campaign at the Pinatar Cup in Murcia, Spain, dropping all three matches against Wales, Scotland and Iceland and taking home lessons to be learned in the months before heading to New Zealand for the World Cup.
