Fierce and Fabulous – The Mail & Guardian

The best objects, designs and unique pieces are surreal and sophisticated and youthful and inspiring. Fashion is fun, but you can’t take it seriously. For fashion to be good, frivolity is integral.

A hidden gem

Sometimes we have to remix the original. The Révélation d’Une Panthère by Cartier used to have a crocodile leather strap and a gold ball hanging on the face of the watch, but this rendition only has 650 diamonds on the face. A decade in the making, this diamond forms a panther on the face of the watch, which reflects 639 diamonds on the strap and bezel. Available through Cartier.

License to twill

Inspired by the beautiful silk scarf of the French maison, or Twilly, Twilly d’Hermés is a beautiful and fragrant perfume. Comes in ginger, tuberose and sandalwood. Each lantern-shaped bottle has a unique silk ribbon tied at the top. If you’re not in a position to accessorize with a Hermés silk scarf, accessorize with scent. Available through the Arc Store.

For the love of art

South African artist Lulama Wolf has collaborated with H&M Home for the second installment of For the Love of Art. It features the work of Wolf and US artist and poet Amber Vittoria. The collection brings together Wolf’s signature motifs and muted tones, as well as an exploration of neo-expressionism and modern African art, for cushions, hand-painted tableware, rugs and throws. Available exclusively through H&M Home, Sandton City.

If the shoes fit

Manolo Blahnik is what happened when child wonder and human genius came together to design shoes for women. Blahnik’s Hangisi is a pair of essential heeled pumps that can be worn as a street style as well as an evening “car-to-the-carpet” dress, with a jewel-inspired buckle on the toe. Available through Manolo Blahnik.
