To boost the capacity of relevant stakeholders working to protect migrants in vulnerable situations, the federal ministry of Women and the United Nations, (UN), and the International Organization for Migration, (IOM), have agreed to work together to create sustainable solutions . to the problem.

In Cooperation on Migration and Partnership, the duo seeks to review and validate the Best Interest Procedure, (BIP), and the Guidelines for Migrants in vulnerable situations to achieve sustainable solutions initiative (COMPASS), the review will be carried out.

The communiqué signed by the Director of Communications and Press and Public Affairs, Olujimi Oyetomi, states that the validation exercise held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state and expected to last for four days, will focus on building the capacity of stakeholders using the blueprint. Best Interests Assessment (BIAs), Process Planning and Best Interests Determination (BID) services for vulnerable migrants.

“Remember that Nigeria among other countries that have been hit by the problem of vulnerability includes women, children and the elderly who need assistance in one form or the other.

To resolve the situation, guidelines were developed on how to resolve the situation before it escalates to unmanageable proportions such as deprivation, depression, mental health and in extreme cases, death,” the statement said.
