MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University, the lone UAAP team in the 2025 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals Batangas Leg, kicks off its campaign against NCAA runner-up Letran on Friday at the University of Batangas Millennium Gym.
The Lady Tamaraws, runner-up of last year’s National Invitationals, battle the Lady Knights at 7 p.m., before tackling host University of Batangas and NCAA champions College of Saint Benilde Lady Blazers in the final four-team, three-day tournament of SSL.
FEU coach Tina Salak parades a seasoned roster led by team captain setter Tin Ubaldo, Mitzi Panangn, Alyzza Devosora, Gerzel Petallo, and Faida Bakanke as the Lady Tams remained stacked despite losing Jean Asis, Chenie Tagaod, and Ann Monares, who all turned pro.
Best Opposite Spiker Judiel Nitura, the sister of Adamson star and Cebu Leg Best Player Shaina, hopes to replicate the achievement of her sibling by leading Letran in the Cebu leg with NCAA Season 100 Rookie of the Year Sheena Sarie.
Letran finished fourth in the previous edition after losing to NCAA archrival College of Saint Benilde in the battle for bronze.
Meanwhile, the reigning four-time NCAA champion St. Benilde battles the UB Lady Brahmans at 5 p.m.
“We’re happy that we’ve been playing a lot of games [this preseason]. It will push us harder and hopefully, we will continue to learn a lot of things,” said CSB coach Jerry Yee, who will bank on Zamantha Nolasco, Jessa Dorog, Chenae Basarte, and Rhea Densing
“As long as their game comes out, I’m good.”
UB, the 2024-25 Universities and Colleges Athletic League runner-up, is out to defend its turf in the quick single-round robin format competition, where the team with the best record will be declared champion.
The Lady Brahmans reached the quarterfinals last year but were booted out by Letran.
NU swept the opening leg in Davao City after sweeping runner-up University of the Philippines, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, and the Davao Selection, which was composed of players from Ateneo de Davao University, Holy Cross of Davao College, and the University of Mindanao.
