The Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents, after the FEC meeting chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mr. Abdullahi said the vehicle was needed to monitor the projects at the contaminated site.
“Today, on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, I presented a memo to the council requesting approval to acquire some project vehicles for the hydrocarbon pollution remediation project.
“You remember that last year last December, the Council approved several projects to do with power for the Ogoni people and the remediation of some pollution sites.
“This was approved because of the desire to ensure effective supervision of this project, especially in the five water schemes.
“And the 16 upcoming water schemes and the proposed shoreline remediation as well as the proposed Center of Excellence will be built in Ogoniland and due to the fact that we will be inspecting experts from outside the country on a regular basis, we must be given project vehicles to be able to effectively inspect, monitor and monitoring remediation exercises.
“So, the FEC has now approved the sum of N1.4 billion only for Messrs Mujaf Automobile Nigeria Ltd to provide 31 vehicles for the project.”
