The Coordinator, Commonwealth Students Association, Precious Ebere, has offered a solution to the increasing number of Nigerian students leaving the country to study abroad, stressing the need for the Federal Government to develop policies and initiatives targeted at attracting and preventing Nigerian students from studying abroad. .
Ebere, who spoke in an interview with journalists on Wednesday, noted that increasing funding for education and ensuring access to it is important, adding that it has a significant impact on the lives of individuals and the welfare of the nation as a whole.
“Many different aspects of education can be addressed in the political process, including funding, curriculum, teacher training, school choice, and access to higher education. How these issues are addressed can have significant consequences for the education system, and the prospects of individuals and society as a whole.
“The approach of the Federal Government to address the situation varies depending on the circumstances and needs of Nigerian students studying abroad. However, some of the potential steps the government can take to address the situation include increasing funding for university education and developing targeted policies and initiatives to attract and retain Nigerian students to study abroad in the country.
“The future of education is constantly changing and evolving. However, some of the things that many students want in the future of education include a more personalized learning experience, more opportunities to engage with real-world problems and issues, and more opportunities to network and connect with students and other educators.
“In addition, students also want to increase their online and digital learning opportunities, as these tools continue to provide convenient and efficient access to educational resources.
“Ensuring access to education is a critical issue for politicians, because it has a significant impact on the lives of individuals and the well-being of the nation as a whole. Many people consider access to quality education as a fundamental right and determinant of individual and community success. Therefore, it is not uncommon for candidates to in the election give plans and policies on education as part of the platform,” he said.
A well-known development practitioner and policy analyst urges leaders and political office-seekers to invest in quality education.
“Promoting education during the election period is very important for the development and progress of the country; It sends a message to voters that the candidates respect the importance of education and are committed to improving it. Education is the foundation on which the country is built, and investing in it helps to ensure that future generations have the knowledge and the skills needed to contribute to the community and economy.
“For the education of Nigerian children; whatever it takes to prepare teachers, curriculum, and classrooms to achieve true educational goals must be done using clear data that can be monitored and accessed with proper policies.
“Beyond campaign promises, politicians must provide high-quality early childhood education that can have a positive impact on children’s development and future success.
“They must ensure that all children have access to a good education, regardless of their socio-economic background or where they live. This may include implementing policies that target disadvantaged communities or providing additional resources to schools that serve students low income.
“There is a need to recognize the importance of education in an individual’s life and support initiatives that provide opportunities to continue education and training. This may include supporting adult education programs or providing incentives for employers to provide training and development opportunities for employees.
“Also, ensuring that teachers are trained and supported is key to improving the quality of education. Politicians can work to improve teacher recruitment, training, and retention to ensure that students have access to the best education possible,” he said.
Ebere emphasized the need to provide students who do not have the opportunity to use technology to improve their education.
“Technology can be a powerful tool to improve education, especially for disadvantaged students who do not have access to the same resources as their peers. Politicians can support initiatives that provide technology resources to schools and teachers and ensure that students have access to reliable internet connectivity,” he added.
