
After the eighth eight-day edition in 2022, organizers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs), MultiChoice Nigeria and Africa Magic, are ready to roll out the red carpet for another year to recognize the best Nollywood talent.
MultiChoice Nigeria and Africa Magic are calling on all African filmmakers to submit films and films that were exhibited or broadcast publicly between December 1, 2021, and January 31, 2023, for this year’s edition of the award. The entry portal opens on February 20, 2023, and closes on March 10, 2023. All films (released in cinemas or otherwise), made-for-television films or television series are eligible as long as they are within the specified timeline.
Speaking about the upcoming ninth edition, Head of Content and Channels West Africa, MultiChoice, Dr Busola Tejumola, said: “AMVCA returned last year after a one-year break with pageants and pageants. We have an eight-day celebration filled with a number of activities that affect various -various aspects of our industry. Since then, we have seen better work that we look forward to celebrating the ninth edition of the award. This year’s AMVCA will once again demonstrate our intentionality to highlight the extraordinary talent we have in the African film and TV industry.
The ninth edition, which is scheduled for the end of the year, will return to the category of social media, which was brought in the house of the fast comedian, Sabinus, last year. The award tagged ‘Best Online Social Content Creator’ recognizes the growing number of content creators across Africa. There are also categories like trailblazer and lifetime awards that often win emotionally.
The fast-rising actor in the period under review will be looking forward to winning the trailblaser award, which will mark a major milestone in his career. On the other hand, Nollywood veterans and fans will cross over the legends of African films to be celebrated this year.
The men’s and women’s best dressed categories will also return, and contestants will be looking to beat Osas Ighodaro and Denola Gray’s impressive performances from last year. Osas also won the ‘Best Actress in a Drama’ award for her role in Rattlesnake the Ahanna Story. The film won three other awards for ‘Best Director (Film)’, ‘Best Cinematographer’ and ‘Best Actor in a Drama’, making Osas and his film one of the biggest winners of the night. Izu Ojukwu’s “Amina” also had a great night last May, bagging four awards in the ‘Best Art Director’, ‘Best Costume Designer’, ‘Best Sound editor’, and ‘Best Overall Film’ categories.
To enter the awards, all filmmakers must prepare a 5-minute long showreel. The video must be less than 300MB and posted on the Africa Magic website. The website will assign a unique reference number to each completed online submission.
