Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal disagreed with the sacking of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State. Peter Obi is an insignificant contender in the upcoming presidential election.
Mr. El-Rufai, while appearing on TVC News’ Journalist Hangout program on Thursday, insisted that Mr. Obi who is the presidential candidate of the Labor Party (LP), could not win the election even though opinion polls put Mr. Obi ahead of other presidential candidates. election.
Some opinion polls have suggested Mr. Obi as the leader while Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), respectively, are trailing the LP flag bearer.
The poll put Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) fourth behind the APC and standard bearer PDP.
According to the Kaduna governor, some polls were not conducted accurately.
He added that Mr. Obi’s party used ethnic and religious bigotry in its campaign.
But in an interview on Channels Television’s primetime show, ‘Politics Today,’ on Friday evening, Mr. Lawal rejected Mr. El-Rufai’s claim.
Contrary to Mr. El-Rufai’s claim that Mr. Obi could not get 25 per cent votes according to the law in all the states of the federation, the former SGF said that the majority of voters in the northern states are fed up with the failed promises of the APC and PDP governments.

“The people of Katsina are desperate to elect Peter Obi because the APC government has failed to protect them. They are now taking refuge in motor parks because of insecurity,” Mr Lawal said.
He stressed that voters in Adamawa, Benue, Plateau, Borno and other northern states “are using Peter Obi because they have seen the light.”

Mr. Lawal who was the SGF under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led regime, was forced out of office following allegations of contract fraud.
He was tried by the EFCC but the court acquitted him of the charges.

Mr. Lawal insisted that the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of Mr. Tinubu and Kashim Shetima would be rejected by Nigerians at the polls.
He stressed that APC and PDP are the same government that has led Nigeria since 1999.
Mr. Lawal said he has seen the light that Mr. Obi and the LP represent, saying, “APC and PDP represent the darkness” in the Nigerian government.

“In this election, every Nigerian is determined to speak. (Mr) El-Rufai will see the shock of his life,” Mr Lawal said.
