Ex-RNC Chair Rips ‘Reckless’ Montana GOP After His ‘Excommunication’

Marc Racicot, former chairman of the Republican National Committee and former Republican governor of Montana, has responded to the “exclusion” of his state’s GOP with a blistering open letter.

In an essay published by the Daily Montanan on Tuesday, Racicot warned of “the absolutist ideology of the state party, the demands of loyalty that cannot be fulfilled, the reckless pursuit of power and compulsion to dismantle the Constitution with the aim of controlling all three branches of government.”

Racicot noted the resignation of one “promising young Republican legislator due to the forced efforts of the Party to impose their policies and do what they think is right,” said the other two “because they did not vote in the way they thought was appropriate” and “The defection of an increasing number of Republicans there are many in your caucus, and across the country, who feel bound by conscience and constitution more than party.”

Racicot served as governor from 1993 to 2001 before becoming the RNC chair from 2002 to 2003. He ran President George W. Bush’s 2004 campaign but attracted criticism from the Montana Republican with anti-Donald Trump comments and crossed the aisle to vote for then-Democratic candidate Joe Biden in 2020.
